The Rock Wing was delivered on time and on budget against the backdrop of the COVID-19 public health emergency, and provides 98 single-occupancy rooms for an additional 5000 patients annually. The rapid delivery, cost savings, and quality of the project was facilitated by using DfMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly) and MMC (Modern Methods of Construction) techniques, as well as through our use of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
Sensitively responding to its urban and historic surroundings, the Rock Wing navigates the intricacies of an inner-city site and the complexity of connecting to a live hospital over multiple levels. The internal environment balances the needs of diverse groups offering integrity, inclusivity, and comfort for patients, staff, and visitors. The awards ceremony, which took place in the National Gallery of Ireland, was attended by Scott Tallon Walker Architects' Managing Director, Ronan Phelan, Project Director Paul Connolly, and members of the Rock Wing design team.
We thank the RIAI for this recognition of the excellence achieved at the Rock Wing by our design team, working closely with the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.
