Planning Permission Granted Within 8 Weeks for Rooftop Helipad at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital
07.05.2025

We are pleased to announce that full planning permission has been granted for the raised rooftop helipad at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH).

This milestone marks a significant advancement in the development of MMUH as the Major Trauma Centre within the Central Trauma Network for Ireland.

The application was approved within 8 weeks, with no third-party observations and no further information requested, reflecting both the strength of the submission and the importance of this infrastructure. The helipad will form part of the Health Service Executive’s Capital Plan and the Governments National Development Plan which will enable faster emergency access for critically ill patients, significantly improving survival rates and patient outcomes.

This achievement is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our design team, specialist sub-consultants, client and to the local community, whose constructive engagement and support were instrumental. MMUH’s commitment to transparent communication through town hall meetings which STW were proud to participate in helped ensure the community’s voice was heard and respected.

This marks a major step forward in enhancing emergency response capabilities and delivering high-quality trauma care to those who need it most, both locally and nationally.
