Now open for consultation until midnight, Wednesday 11th March 2026, the updated design has been shaped and informed by an extensive engagement which began in August 2024.
The design supports the creation of a high-quality public realm, to accommodate everyday activity, cultural events, and social interaction, while also providing a place to pause in the heart of the city. At its core, the design responds to a comprehensive programme of public consultation through which the vision for the project was developed: to create a space that is enjoyable to spend time in, is easy to move through, and which stays vibrant and welcoming from morning to night.
The project will introduce landscaped areas which will increase greening in the Dame Street area to 30%, improving air quality, reducing noise, and promoting biodiversity, together with the addition of nature-based drainage to slow and absorb rainfall, helping to reduce flooding and support long term climate resilience. The new plan will create a pedestrian priority area with safe cycle routes, while clearer pedestrian routes, better crossings, sensory cues, and tactile materials support confidence and independence for people of all ages and abilities.
Grow College Green is being led by Dublin City Council in partnership with the National Transport Authority, supported by a multi-disciplinary design team headed by Scott Tallon Walker Architects and OKRA landscape architects, alongside specialists in urban design and planning, lighting, heritage, community engagement, and accessibility.
