Creating healthy, living communities – an Irish perspective
03.12.2019

Scott Tallon Walker Architects spoke at Healthy City Design 2019 on the exciting developments in Ireland on actively creating healthy, living communities.

Scott Tallon Walker's Donal Blake and Philip Jackson attended Healthy City Design 2019 in October this year. They discussed the developments in Ireland on actively creating healthy, living communities through the application of the RIAI Town and Village Toolkit.

STW's collaboration with the RIAI in developing the toolkit is part of our commitment to the advancement to design research and thinking in Ireland. The people-centred approach to the toolkit sets out a number of principles which include:

  • Planning for towns to be compact
  • Have a high-quality network of routes
  • Spaces and places that are interesting attractive and enjoyable
  • The clustering of uses and facilities
  • Response to the public realm and urban form
  • The enhancement of the natural environment and built form
