MArch, B.Arch (Hons), Dip. Urban Planning, MRIAI, MRTPI, Architect ARB

Philip is a Project Director with Scott Tallon Walker Architects and leads our Urban Planning Team. He joined the practice in 1998, having spent the previous 12 years living and working as an Architect/Planner in several different countries on numerous international projects. His passion for architecture and urban planning started in his childhood experience of living in many different places and cultures. As an architectural student in Edinburgh, he was inspired by the urban quality of the city and took the opportunity to focus first on urban design and then also specialise in urban planning in Oxford.
Core principles are that ‘places are for people’ and that ‘Good architecture is the backdrop to life’ which means that understanding how people experience and respond to their built environment informs how well these places work - it’s not solely about how it looks, but whether it’s fit for purpose and is pleasant to be in.
These principles have informed all of Philip’s work, including significant healthcare projects like the Mater Hospital and Aviva Stadium in Dublin, and numerous large-scale urban projects.
Philip’s recent work includes large-scale master planning, public realm projects and developing urban design guidance for historic towns and villages for an Irish Planning Authority.
He is regularly invited as a speaker at conferences and events, to be part of urbanism award panels, and has written extensively on urban design and planning.
