Donal is a Director of STW and is a dynamic and energetic leader within our healthcare team. With over 20 years of specialist healthcare experience, Donal has worked on two of the largest acute hospital redevelopments ever undertaken in Ireland, providing clinical accommodation for all of the main medical specialities and allied health professions, spanning inpatient, day-patient and outpatient care, and the range of ancillary functions essential to the effective operation of any hospital.
Donal’s expertise in the delivery of projects in live, acute hospital environments is invaluable during construction, but also reinforces a design approach which mitigates or eliminates risks from the outset.
In addition to his acute hospital experience, Donal has also demonstrated his ability to deeply engage with and understand the needs of patients and clinicians in other specialist sectors, including acute mental healthcare and design for hospice and elderly care.
Donal’s emphasis on creating patient and family-centred healing environments goes far beyond meeting the latest technical and clinical standards. His personal commitment is demonstrated in the finish and appearance of internal spaces and landscaped areas of his completed buildings, which maximise therapeutic value for patients and provide excellent working environments for clinicians.
Donal has lectured at many international healthcare conferences and is a leading advocate of Evidence Based Design in our healthcare projects.
